In 1782, La Grande Taverne de Lourdes opened in Paris as the World’s first fine-dining restaurant. First, Antoine Beauvilliers is recognized for combining the essentials for a great meal: superb cooking, knowledgeable servers, a beautiful dining room, and a well-stocked wine cellar.

French Revolution’s Impact on Dining

All of Paris’ 500 restaurants catered to French citizens’ preferences in 1789. After the French Revolution, a shortage of chefs resulted in many searching for a job.
