How to Make an Omelet: Eggs 101

Chefs everywhere take pride in the process to make an omelet. Eggs are an all-time favorite breakfast across the globe. It’s a perfect go-to food, especially if you are not a master chef yourself. If you want to lay your hands in the kitchen and serve your family a delicious meal by just using eggs, nothing will go wrong with an omelet unless you know how to cook it perfectly. If you think an omelet is as easy as pie, hold that thought because you may sweat in the kitchen before you can create a fluffy, golden-on-the-outside, and creamy-on-the-inside omelet.

So, to help you achieve the perfect and special omelet, we’ve listed some tips for you to follow. You’ll thank us after reading this because you’ll be surprised how you can perfect an omelet every time!

1. Be Cautious with Your Main Ingredient

This tip is by far the most important because it talks about your main ingredient, the egg. When making an omelet, it’s crucial to pick an egg that is at room temperature before you cook it. Eggs that are too cold may lead to overcooking because they will take longer to set. So, when your egg is from your refrigerator, keep them aside for a while to let it cool down before you whip it.

2. Make Them Fluffy by Adding Milk

One of the main characteristics of a perfect omelet is its fluffy texture. To achieve that, you can add a small amount of milk or cream. Without adding any milk or cream, your omelet will be thin and flat, which is not so desirable.

3. Beat Them Right

When beating your egg and milk together, make sure that you will not see any flecks of white. It should be frothy and light to know that it’s properly beaten.

4. Be Careful in Pouring Your Egg Batter

Butter is one of the secret ingredients to make your omelet have that rich texture and taste. Before you put your batter in the pan, melt your butter first. After the bubbles from the butter die down, that’s when you pour your egg butter. Make sure not to burn your butter because it will affect the taste of your omelet.

5. Watch out for the Color

Right after you pour the egg batter, remember not to leave them because eggs are delicate. They can quickly turn brown and charred if you don’t pay attention to them. A perfect omelet should have a light yellowish or cream-colored bottom, so watch out for it carefully to achieve that.

6. Let It Set Before Adding the Topping

After achieving the color you’re aiming for, let your egg set in well and add the toppings. Scatter them all over your eggs and carefully turn the other side to fold.

7.  Use a Small Non-stick Pan

If you don’t want any hassle when folding your omelet, it’s best to use a non-stick pan when cooking. This way, you can avoid ruining your egg during the process. Set your fire on medium heat and consider the size of the pan you will use because it will also affect the cooking process.

8. Carefully Plate the Omelet Without Breaking

The key not to break your omelet while plating is to shake the pan gently to loosen any egg or filling from the edge. Then, slide the omelet gently on the edge of the skillet and let it slide onto the plate.
