Deserves More than 5 Stars!

This was an amazing experience, from the conversation to the sublime food. Chef Kevin Vermilyea adds a personal touch to every course, using his own home-grown herbs to fresh lemons from his own garden. He was engaging and we soon realized, from our old stomping grounds in New York. This was for my father’s 96th birthday. It was so much better to enjoy Michelin Star cooking in the comfort of our own home. We so appreciate all that he brought to this wonderful experience. Thank you!

Amazing experience!

We did this for a bachelorette party and it was so much better than going out to dinner somewhere. Kevin’s food was amazing and we had great conversation. Food was better than any restaurants we would have chosen, clearly quality ingredients and an experienced chef.

Chef Kevin is Awesome!

I’m not normally “review guy”, but i have to spread the word on how amazing of a time our group had with Chef Kevin this past weekend. Chef Kevin and team took care of our group of 14 with ease, the food was absolutely amazing, the dinner was timely and efficient, and the hospitality was top notch. Our group particularly enjoyed chatting with Chef before, during, and after the dinner about many topics including the menu itself, sourcing ingredients, and the processes involved in the prepping of the food. Food was Amazing!

Bachelorette Party Must!

This experience was a major highlight of our weekend! Our meal was exceptional, better than we could have imagined. Chef Kevin and his Sous Chef James were so friendly and professional. With there being 11 of us on this bachelorette trip, Chef Kevin did an amazing job at accommodating the groups food allergies and preferences. We felt well taken care of! I highly suggest Chef Kevin to anyone looking for a private chef experience.

Fantastic Experience

Chef Kevin and staff went above and beyond to make sure all were happy and accommodated all dietary needs. The food was delicious. Chef Kevin grew his own herbs and made everything fresh. Very personable and would highly recommend him. We will be using his services again.

Chef Kevin Vermilyea – On Point!

Chef Kevin prepared a fabulous meal for my parents in the North Myrtle Beach area. He was professional yet personable, and prepared everything from scratch – seared scallops and gnocchi, Caesar salad, filet mignon, and creme brulee. My parents and I highly recommend Chef Kevin!

30th birthday party

I reached out to Food Fire & Knives to have at my 30th birthday and Kevin did an amazing job! Not only was the food delicious but all the girls talked about how professional and nice he was. Would definitely recommend and use again. We had a great time!

Nice experience!

We enjoyed our meal by Chef Kevin. From start to finish, I was pleased with the amount of communication regarding our reservation, potential menu changes, etc. Kevin arrived on time and served our meal as requested. All of the cleanup was done and we didn’t have to lift a finger, so that was nice! For the cost, I would say the menus could be stepped up a notch. We loved the pork belly dish and the plating was beautiful, however the fish was just served over rice with corn, and cocktail peanuts placed on top of our desserts. Kevin was great, we just expected the food to feel a little more “gourmet” for the cost. Overall a nice meal and good service for sure!

Fantastic BBQ and wonderful service!

Kevin was awesome!

I had hired Kevin to cook a special dinner for my sister and I and her friends who traveled to Myrtle Beach for the week to celebrate her 50th birthday. After arriving on time to our condo, Kevin started preparing our meal including a tuna appetizer, sushi, followed by a macadamia nut encrusted Mahi paired with a sautéed spinach and melt in your mouth sweet potato ravioli. For our non-fish eaters, he prepared a really lovely NY strip steak with a mushroom tortellini. The strip was prepared perfectly. Our crème brûlée dessert where he caramelized the sugar on-site was amazing too! Kevin was an excellent chef and very personable. Next time we are in town, we’d DEFINITELY hire him again to cook for us!

Delicious Food & Above and Beyond Service

We had Chef Kevin come do a Carolina-style pulled pork barbecue dinner for our family party of 26 the other day and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The food was absolutely delicious and members of our party are still talking about it a few days later. He was organized and professional but also extremely kind and friendly. Everything flowed seamlessly and everybody really enjoyed it. I also really appreciate the extra time he took to talk with me about the culinary industry as I am an aspiring personal chef myself. He gave me wonderful advice and it was very clear from talking to him that he has years and years of fantastic experiences that all help him to be the great chef that he is today. I highly recommend Chef Kevin.

Special Client Dinner Party

I used Food Fire and knives for a client dinner party. I was not able to be there so I trusted Kevin Vermilyea with the process. It was the easiest dinner party I have ever thrown. Kevin spoiled us!

Kevin went above and beyond when it came to providing a menu that was not his own. He took the time to explain some of his techniques that heightened the experience. He was entertaining, in addition to being a fabulous chef. I would highly recommend him to anyone in the Wilmington area and my group hopes to come back to book him again.

Kevin is amazing

Chef Kevin was so nice and his food was so yummy! What a neat experience having a chef come to your house to cook! I would highly recommend it and especially chef Kevin! His lobster ravioli was so good and his ceviche is to die for! Can’t wait to have him back for a sushi night!


How to Hire a Private Chef for Your Event

  • Pick a place, date, and time.
  • Select your chef and menu. (Each chef offers different menus which are fully a la carte. Simply choose the dishes you want for your occasion.)
  • Add details like the number of guests and any special instructions.
  • Pay for your reservation. Make any changes or even cancel up to a week before your event for a refund.
  • After you’ve made a reservation, the private chef you’ve hired will reach out within 48 hours to confirm the details and coordinate their arrival.
  • If you’ve added any special dietary restrictions or event instructions, they’ll work with you to implement those.
  • Your chef will arrive with everything they need, including ingredients, cooking equipment, and cleaning supplies. All you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the day with your guests.
  • The cleanup is included too! Hire a private chef with us and know that we’ll likely leave your kitchen cleaner than when you gave it to us.

Our Top FAQs

1. Can I customize the menu?

Absolutely! All our menus are fully a la carte. Once you’ve decided on a chef, you’ll see a list of all the dishes they offer and you can choose the ones you’d like for your event.

2. How is your service priced?

You pay a fixed price per guest based on your menu, plus a small, all-inclusive booking fee to our platform. You’ll be able to see exactly what you’re paying when you make a booking. No hidden costs, ever.

3. How many guests can I invite?

As many as you like! Although for events with over 30 people, we ask that you reach out to us to make an event inquiry.

4. My group has multiple dietary restrictions

That’s absolutely fine! When finalizing your menu, please mention these under ‘Special Instructions.’ For instance, you can specify that you’d like to accommodate one vegan guest and one gluten-free guest for your at-home catering and your private chef will prepare suitable dish variants for those guests.

5. Can I make changes to the menu or guest list?

Yes! You can make any changes to your booking. You can even cancel it up to a week before your event, and you’ll receive a refund.

6. Is my event insured?

Yes, it is. Our service includes full insurance for your private chef in case of any mishaps.

7. How are the Chefs chosen?

Each chef is fully vetted. We require at minimum one year of sous chef experience. Your chef has gone through an FCRA compliant background check and multiple interviews before joining our platform.

8. What is FFKs cancellation and refund policy?

We take pre-payment to secure your chef and simplify our service. No fumbling with payments after your event or dealing with multiple payments in different stages of the process. Much like our service, our return policy is simple and meant to protect you, our hosts and our amazing Chefs.
  • One week or more before your event we guarantee your refund.
  • During the week of your event we offer a 50% refund.
  • We will not be able to refund within 48 hours of your event. At this point your chef has not been available for other parties and has already planned for your event. *Please note all refunds are less processing and booking fees
