Having grown up in the Lowcountry, I have a deep appreciation for the abundance of local seafood and produce available to us here in Charleston. Whenever possible I try to incorporate these items into my menu. Inspired by the many local celebrity chefs and the food of my childhood, I try to express my love of all things southern in my food. But I haven’t always lived here. A while back I moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming where, after working at several restaurants, I ended up as the Executive Chef of the fabled Old Yellowstone Garage. At OYG I gained an appreciation for Italian cuisine and discovered that the Italians are just as proud and protective of their local food traditions as we are in the South. I am back in Charleston now and enjoying working as a private chef with Food Fire and Knives. Perhaps the biggest attraction to being a private chef is the interaction with our clients. Unlike when I was running restaurants and stuck in the kitchen, I get to engage our clients. I love to answer questions and help to expand their culinary knowledge. Fine Dining For Two

Our at home fine dining experience was a gift from our children. Just me and my husband with a delightful meal prepared for us in the comfort of our own home. Chef Ed Renken arrived promptly at the requested time. He and his assistant were friendly, efficient, and professional. We went all-in with a meal including soup, salad, appetizer, and entrée. Everything was top quality; the lobster bisque was delicious and soothing, the appetizer (seared scallops) was perfectly done – cooked just to the peak of perfection! The entrée was amazing – a beautiful beef filet (again, perfectly done medium rare as requested), with stone crab and a lemon mustard aioli. The creamed spinach was the best I have ever tasted and the potato puree had just a perfect hint of horseradish. We would highly recommend Chef Renken and Food Fire + Knives for a quality, at-home dining experience!

Chef Ed Rocks!

We hired Chef Ed for our bachelorette party and it was the highlight of our weekend! He came with a helper (Helen) who was so sweet and accommodating. We did the southern fried chicken meal and it was so amazing. Our Airbnb has the tiniest kitchen and minimal plates – he went above and beyond to make the presentation perfect for 9 tipsy girls. Highly highly recommend!!!
